In the year of 1512 the chronicler of Emperor Charles V delivered the first figure of a hammock to Europe (see Figure right).
"...at the beginning the people had efforts to describe a hammock, that´s why they produced this illustration. It is not easy to draw a hammock, probably that´s why Oviedo chose the square form of the cloth. Influenced by the idea of an usual bed this illustration was misunderstood totally in Europe.
Till today the Europeans plug in a spreader bar into the hammock in ignorance."
