We received the price of business plans for "founding an enterprise regarding sustainable development". This initiative by the Austrian ministry of technology and innovation remunerated us for founding our business that supports the producers in Brazil paying an additional fair trade bonus to all people in Brazil that are involed in the producing process. Hammocks also can contribute to a more relaxing life feeling in our to fast moving world.
Jury comment: a sustainable development is based on three pillars: the economic, ecological and social future. The business concept of "BAHIA hammocks" is economically viable and has a strong social component: the founders use the criteria for fair trade in order to improve the production conditions in Brazil. This also includes payment of reasonable wages, which should improve in long turn the education and also to reduce environmental pollution.
In Europe hammocks may spread something as Brazilian "Alegria" - joy of life and well-being. This business concept with the goal to support sustainable development at international level was selected for the grant of the "sustainability price" within this business plan competition.
